G.I. Joe Analysis- Research and Planning
The 2013 film is a science fiction film which also involves action. This double genre technique used will not only add publicity to the film, but also make it more successful as this is unique compared to other films which would intrest and intrique the audience. This also includes a lot of big well known actors like Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum. These actors have a reputation of producing good films so if they star in this film then that stereotypes it as being good, making it appeal to the audience more. This multi-genre use of Sci-fi and action would attract a wider audience instead of just one group of people who like action and people that like sci-fi. Both groups would probably be interested in this film because it uses both genres and this is unique to others. The actors used could attract different types of audience. Channing Tatum would attract the female audience due to his good looks and how he has starred in most romance films like 'Dear John' and 'The Vow' which makes him appeal more to girls. Bruce Willis is an iconic male action star who would appeal to a wide range of action film lovers due to his reputation in the film industry, he also stars in 'Die Hard' and 'Hostel' . Dwayne Johnson is an ex wrestler so would appeal to a younger audience, he is also a role model and a stereotype of a muscular, brave and threatening character. Featuring in films like 'Scorpion King', 'Pain and Gain' and many others.
The fact that these 3 characters are in the same film, shows that the film will be full of experience and excitement and this will appeal to a much wider audience whereas if the film only had one of them, the film might not have been as successful.

White House Down Analysis- Research and Planning
The dramatics of the action genre movie is stereotyped in this trailer through sound, mise en scene, and connotations. It begins with immediate explosions and loud bangs and noises, this suggests the danger of the film and what you will be seeing through majority of the film. This also intrigues the audience as they want to find the story behind the action and violence. The sound then dies out to add dramatic effect, the screen also goes black to suggest the noise and violence has been put to a stop, this is then brought back and adds excitement for the audience as they weren't expecting it.
Channing Tatum is the main character in this film and he is stereotyped as the hero through his muscular physique and good looks. This is the sort of factor which would attract the female public and exploit all areas of people to want to watch this film, not just the men who are stereotyped to enjoy and want to watch action films.
The trailer is a constant build up of tension and suspense which creates an exciting atmosphere for the people that are watching it and will also make them want to go and watch the actual film. The explosions and weapons from the trailer will attract male attention and this explains the genre of the film as being an action film. The sound and effects used in this trailer also build excitement and the film has similar producers to other big successful adventure/action films e.g. 2012.
Safe Haven Analysis- Research and Planning
Safe Haven is a 2013 American romance film starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel and Cobie Smulders. It was released theatrically in North America on February 14, 2013.
Josh Duhamel had already starred in other global films like all of the Transformers films and this creates a better reputation for this film and gives it more conspiracy of being a good production because of this experienced actor.
The beginning of the trailer shows two women who are friends, running from the same thing which appears to be scaring or shadowing over them. This intrigues the viewers because they'll want to find out how they overcome these issues and what happens in the coming chapters of their lives. The trailer also shows which other films this production has made which increases the reputation to make the audience want to go and watch it when it's released, because both 'The Notebook' and 'Dear John' were a huge success.
The protagonist female then meets a man in her new hometown, and the music changes suggesting the change in her life and the importance of this greeting. She then points out to her female friend that she has 'had things happen to her in the past' which brings us back to the conspiracy at the beginning of the trailer. Sympathy is then created for the audience after someone tells the woman that the man's wife passed away a few years ago. The dramatic side of the trailer then touches the audience after they drift into love.
There is a significant build up in the music when drama is increasing throughout the trailer about the villain coming back to find the girl who has found love at last in her new settlement. The end of the trailer is finished by the man saying 'I love you' which connects with the audience and makes them understand the chemistry between these two characters.
Titles in this trailer display meaning and the title 'Safe Haven' has a background of the setting of the film which could display the importance of this location and what relation it has to the film. This example of verbal code is also displayed through other scenes in the trailer and from what the couple says to each other to show their mutual feelings and emotions.
Research and Planning: The Hunger Games Analysis
The beginning of this trailer immediately warns the viewers that it is an adventure film by the first camera shot being of outdoors and the main character (Katniss Eberdeen) climbing under a fence suspiciously and running off into the woods. A bow and arrow is then used, which sets not only the setting for the film, but also the time era, because that is a weapon which isn't really used anymore. The naturistic stereotype then ends when a massive hovercraft shadows these two characters whilst they are in the woods. This changes the mood for the viewers as it wasn't really what they were expecting to see after the previous encounters in the trailer so far. It then skips to a scene of a big amount of people grouped together, wearing similar coloured clothes with similar emotions on their faces. The main character is holding a younger girls hand, not only suggesting they are scared, but also close, and potential relatives. The dramatics of this trailer are enhanced when Katniss Eberdeen volunteers for tribute to secure the fact that her younger sister (Primrose Eberdeen) was not going to be representing them as she was the one who's name was chosen. This enforces the love and emotion between these two characters, making the audience connect more with the story and will make them want to watch the film.
'From the epic selling novels'. This quote actually combines with the films success as it has already proven the story's are worth reading through the books they've made. This will help the distribution and success of the film. The drama of this trailer is purely what catches the eye of the audience as it has the family which get separated from each other as one has to compete in a battle to the death, this adds emotion for the audience, and is good for promotion because they would want to find out if the girl ever gets reunited with her family.
The Vow Analysis- Research and Planning
The trailer begins with a couple getting married which automatically stereotypes the film as a romance, this indicates the genre early on in the trailer which will grip the audiences attention quickly. You can tell both of the people are happy which changes the mood for the audience as they prepare themselves for a happy story. It then flashbacks to many memories that the two have together and increasing the interest of the audience. When the man askes the woman to 'move in?' spelt in blueberries and pancakes, this equilibrium sets the mood and assures the audience that the couple are going to be moving in together and continue with their love story. However, the sound changes in the trailer when a truck hits the back of their car, giving the man minor injuries but concussing the woman, giving her no trace of memory. This sends their relationship into the ground, as she doesn't remember who her husband (Channing Tatum) is.
The trailer then mentions that the film was released on valentines day, adding emotion and concern from the audience, this increases the chances of them wanting to go and watch the actual film when it is released because valentines day is something many people can relate to and this makes the audience share mutual concern for the characters in the film. This is also good for the distribution of the film because most couples would want to watch a romantic film in this time period and this would match those demands.
The target audience would be primarily a female group or couples around the mature ages of 16+ so they understand not only the chemistry between the two lovers but the tragic event that results in their separation. This leaves the film with an acceptable and diversable target audience because if it fails to attract one part of the audience, the other would still watch it, giving it profit.

Research Analysis: Superman- Man of Steel
Man of Steel is a film released in 2013 directed by Zack Snyder. Zack Snyder also directed other successful and worldwide films like 300. This film was produced by Christopher Nolan, who not only produced The Dark Knight also, but is familiar with superhero filming and therefore was perfect fitted for making this film just as successful as The Dark Knight was. This film was distributed by Warner Bros who are a multinational co-orperation which automatically makes the film a viral hit due to their viral marketing campaign and publicity.
The plot of the film is about a young boy who learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind. A sneak preview of this is displayed in the trailer above, not to give away all the surprises and excitement of the film, but just enough information to intrigue the viewer and make them eager to want to go and watch the film.
The trailer starts with a stereotypical scene of a hero sinking in water, this scene is often used in representing a hero in a situation in which a normal person would be perished and would most likely drown. It then skips to a sinking bus scene, introducing many characters and displaying the genre of action and adventure instantly by endangering the characters and exciting the viewers.

The background is of the city, which not only shows Superman flying and doing unbelieveable herioc actions, but it could signify as him watching over the city, as a guardian. The cape and colours he's wearing also could represent bravery and power as the role he plays in the film certainly matches that figure.
The title 'Man of Steel' also could represent Superman as invincible as steel is extremely hard to penetrate and could be interpreted as 'invincible'. The date is standing out in reasonably big font at the bottom of the page to let the audience know when the film is being released and this will distribute the film well.

The front page of Empire Magazine have chosen a picture of Superman standing up very straight, arms held out wide to make him appear bigger and his fists clenched to make him appear violent but also as a hero. The heading 'Man of Steel' is used again just like the poster, this is to enforce the meaning behind it and to increase his reputation of being very powerful.
Again the bold colours are used to display his strength and importance in this picture.

Mirrors Poster Analysis- Research and Planning

The font and style of the title is quite daunting, and it looks as if it is looking over the family, and as if they could be haunted by these mirrors. The child looks most vulnerable not just because he is sitting on the floor, and not just because he is the youngest of the three, but because he is interacting with his reflection which could make the viewers wonder what happens in the film and how their reflections would effect their well-being.
The target audience is addressed by the genre of the film not only being stereotyped as a horror, but you could probably assume that the age group to watch this film would be 18+. On the poster, it says 'There is evil on the other side'. So use of the word 'evil' will stage this film as a horror and that would make the target audience adults and couples who want to watch the film for a thrill.
Mirrors Analysis- Research and Planning
The trailer starts with a stereotypical American lifestyle, a house in a lonely neighbourhood with a family. The way most horror films begin which already reveals a lot to the viewers. The scene then switches to a deserted what appears to be a warehouse, which is very big and someone says 'well, this is where you'll be spending most of your time, insinuating that he'll be there at night too.' Which sets the stereotype of how most horror films and bad events are staged at night. Then the man who is giving the father a tour of where he'll be staying says 'The man that was working here before you, he was completely obsessed with these mirrors'. This not only relates to the title and the importance of the mirrors, but also adds question as to what happened to the man that worked there before? This conspiracy adds suspension and excitation to the trailer and will make the audience want to watch the film more. The trailer then reveals what the issue is after the protagonist turns his back on the mirror and his reflection turns around, and he doesn't. The non diagetic sound displays the change of drama in the trailer as things seem to go downhill ever since the sound changes from happy stereotypical family music, to scary, jumpy distorted music. The diagetic sound of screams, smashes of glass and loud bangs relate to not only the fear of the character in the film, but also the audience as they can both hear it and makes them share mutual emotions of fear.
Mirrors is a 2008 supernatural horror film directed by Alexandre Aja, and stars Kiefer Sutherland. The film was first titled Into the Mirror, but the name was later changed to Mirrors. Filming began on May 1, 2007, and it was released in American theaters on August 15, 2008. This film is distributed by 20th century fox, which is a very big multi-national co-operation and could signify why the film had such success due to it's viral marketing. Kiefer Sutherland is a very big and well known actor, which is even more distribution for this film making it a success because viewers are guaranteed that it will be good due to his reputation in the horror and action filming industry.
Plot: In New York, a former detective Ben Carson is hired to work as night watch of the remains of a Department Store that was partially destroyed by fire many years ago. However he has not been drinking for three months and sees the employment as a chance to rebuild his life. When he goes to the rounds in his first night, he finds that the mirrors are impeccably clean and his colleague explains that the former night watch was obsessed by the mirrors. When Angie is found brutally murdered in her bathtub, Ben discovers that there is an evil force in the mirror that is chasing him and jeopardizing his family.

Sinister analysis- Research and Planning
The trailer grips the audience from the beginning by reporting a news flash on an abnormal event, staging the film as scary and intriging for the viewers. '9 months later' seperates the audience from what they just saw and now they are prepared to understand the change of what's happened since then. This adds more excitement. By this stage, the audience have seen the house in darkness and the quote from what sounds like a young girl 'I didn't want to move here' can only suggest bad insinuations. The music stops when he reaches up into the attic, this use of non diagetic sound can only suggest that something is up there, something that they want the audience to recognise.
The camera then focuses on a box, and holds that shot, representing the importance of it. This box contains footage of records of the family that previously lived in the house a very long time ago. There is a symbol on the footage which the father recognised, after researching, he discovers this sign represents something called 'Bagul' who is someone who consumes the soul of human children, and uses pictures and images as a gateway to get into his realm. Text appears 'Once you see him' which not only scares the audience, but will make them look out for Bagul even more now they know of his importance in this film. This is then followed by 'Nothing can save you' which adds excitement to the film and makes the audience wonder what will then happen, if the family will survive or be perished by Bagul's actions. 'Children exposed to the images were especially vulnerable to Bagul's abductions'. Once this is said, the same sound is played when the father found the records, which could represent Bagul and when he is going to feature in the film.
It also could suggest that the audience will see children being faced with Bagul and what will happen when they cross paths. The same symbol which represents Bagul in this trailer is repeated through bad imagery and jumpy events, which is to enforce the importance of the symbol and what it means throughout the film. The record is then playing near the end, which then links back to the box found by the father and the relation of the beginning of the trailer and how that could answer many questions about the history of the records. Before the end of the trailer, it then shows a flash of Baguls face, planting that image in the audience's head and making them want to go and watch the whole film to understand the whole storyline behind Bagul and the storyline which he features in.
