Research and Planning: The Hunger Games Analysis

The beginning of this trailer immediately warns the viewers that it is an adventure film by the first camera shot being of outdoors and the main character (Katniss Eberdeen) climbing under a fence suspiciously and running off into the woods. A bow and arrow is then used, which sets not only the setting for the film, but also the time era, because that is a weapon which isn't really used anymore. The naturistic stereotype then ends when a massive hovercraft shadows these two characters whilst they are in the woods. This changes the mood for the viewers as it wasn't really what they were expecting to see after the previous encounters in the trailer so far. It then skips to a scene of a big amount of people grouped together, wearing similar coloured clothes with similar emotions on their faces. The main character is holding a younger girls hand, not only suggesting they are scared, but also close, and potential relatives. The dramatics of this trailer are enhanced when Katniss Eberdeen volunteers for tribute to secure the fact that her younger sister (Primrose Eberdeen) was not going to be representing them as she was the one who's name was chosen. This enforces the love and emotion between these two characters, making the audience connect more with the story and will make them want to watch the film.

'From the epic selling novels'. This quote actually combines with the films success as it has already proven the story's are worth reading through the books they've made. This will help the distribution and success of the film. The drama of this trailer is purely what catches the eye of the audience as it has the family which get separated from each other as one has to compete in a battle to the death, this adds emotion for the audience, and is good for promotion because they would want to find out if the girl ever gets reunited with her family.
