Insidious 2 Trailer Analysis

The film begins with a stereotypical setting, very similar to the first insidious film, which is probably recognised early by the viewers. The first facial expression shown by the main character is a smile, which sets the theme happy for the viewers, not preparing them for disturbing and unforgettable scenes. The same characters star in this film as the last insidious, so the audience already know that they had experienced these traumatic events before. The theme quickly changes as she went from smiling, to fear and being concerned for her life and her family. There is non diagetic sound used to make the film seem happy and as if everything is going to be fine. The music then stops as soon as paranormal events begin to happen in their grandma's house. Scenes in this stage of the trailer involve a stereotypical house and a normal family which stuns the viewers into thinking these events could potentially happen to them. The same problems begin to happen as a random woman appears in the house and the childs room begins to be pestered and disrupted all over again.

'From the makers of 'Saw' and 'Paranormal Activity' gives the film a reputation of being good and successful straight away as majority of people have seen these films, staging this one as the same level of potential.
'This tarrying secret... Will be revealed'. This use of language would stand out to the naked eye as it intrigues the readers and makes them wonder what could be revealed in this film which wasn't revealed in the last. This unknown information would be the attraction as the audience would want to find this out to discover more about 'Insidious' and it's plot.

It also reveals in the trailer at the end, the release date of the film was 'Friday 13th September' and this is good viral release date timing as it is known that friday the 13th is unlucky and has also been used for previous horror films e.g. The Nighmare on Elm Street. This would attract more people as they believe they would get more of a thrill from watching it on this date that any other and this means the tickets would pretty much be booked out on the release day of the film.
