The colour display on the poster is very good and would also attract the eye of those who love horror films and targets specific age groups between 18-25. The red is used to make certain factors about the poster stand out. The slogan above the image 'New Decade. New Rules.' Underlines that although people could have seen the earlier films of the sequel, things have changed and this will make them want to watch the film more due to the fact they don't know what could happen but they do know about the plot of the film. This is good technique which doesn't reveal too much but still keeps the audience interested. The red is also used on the '4' of the word 'Scream' and also in the date in which the film is being released. This could signify blood and danger which is a cleverly used colour scheme as it is not overused yet it is used on the important parts of the poster. This makes the release date superior to the rest of the poster and would make the date stick in the viewers heads. The black background relates to the stereotypical fear of the dark, and how most horror films are filmed at night, the mask looks more scary in this background as it is all you can see. The mask is also white, making it stand out even more with the black background as they are both contrasting colours.
The picture of the mask is the same as the others from the sequel so the mask is recognised by the viewers, it also represents horror, which is enough to excite the audience and make them want to go and watch the film. The title is bold in white and this is to make it stand out to the audience so they remember it. The significant number which is planted into the title in a different colour could mean two things, the most obvious that it is the 4th addition to the sequel of 'Scream' but also enforces the fact that the masked person on the poster is coming back for the 4th time, which would fill the audience with both fear and excitation. The word 'Scream' is often a sign of fear or fright, which relates to the genre of the film and could explain either what the characters will be doing in the film majority of the time, or the audience. The bottom of the mask is shaped like a dagger or a knife, this object is recognised as a dangerous and voilent object used to kill and injure people. Which plants the idea in the audience head that the mask represents something dangerous and evil.
